The Enchanted castle stood as still as a statue. A storm was brewing up, lightning striking it as every hour passed by. The clouds greyed as flashes of light sparked in the sky leaving a cold shiver in the land. The tower’s base stayed rooted to the spot as the storm did its worst, hailing heavily and showering the land with heavy rains. The witch cackled as her castle survived, knowing it was indestructible.
One day, Honey, a pretty young maiden was milking her Father’s cow on the farm when she came across the baker’s son whom she had loved since childhood. He was very handsome and Honey had always thought that the boy was special. She liked to think that he thought the same about her and he did but she didn’t know. The baker’s son was Rook and only a year older than Honey which made them the perfect couple. Honey lived in a cottage with her Mother and Father next to the family’s farm and lived a happy life. Every day she would help them on the farm. There was one place that Honey was never allowed to go to and that was the witch’s enchanted castle…
Meanwhile in the witch’s castle the evil witch was mixing potions and stroking her apprentice cat. “ HA! HA! HA! I will get hold of that baker’s son! He is a special soul and a very strong boy. I will take his strength and that will make me powerful enough to rule this world. Then I will trap the remains of his soul in a bottle!!” Bats flew around her praising her and bowing down to the future Queen!!
Honey hadn’t seen Rook for quite some time so went down to the bakery to find out what had happened. At the bakery Rook’s dad was selling bread and cakes to customers. “Honey! Over here, how’s your Dad?” asked Rook’s Dad, Fred, her Dad’s best friend. ”He’s fine, how’s Rook?” Fred’s face fell. “ Rook’s not been himself lately. He’s acting all moody and hurt like he’s under some kind of spell. What if the witch has something to do with this?” whispered Fred in a low voice. The idea of the witch cursing Rook brought a shiver down Honey’s spine. “I’ll go and see and maybe calm him down?” Honey offered. So Honey went to check on Rook. In Rook’s bedroom the pillows were strewn across the floor and he was walking up and down the aisle, muttering a strange language to himself. When Honey emerged he screamed, “ OUT! OUT! You little brat! Come to have a laugh have you? You selfish girl with your innocent looks!” With that Rook pushed Honey out of the room and slammed the door behind him. Honey was heartbroken. This Rook was so different from Rook’s normal charming self. He normally helped Honey and had fun with her but this certainly wasn’t a joke.
The witch had been watching this episode through her magic globe. What had happened to Rook was only the beginning of her taking his power and it would get a lot worse. Of course this was good news for the witch as part of her mission was to hurt him. There was nothing that anyone could do to stop this curse for it was too powerful and knowing this brought a smile to the witch’s horrible warty face.
Later on that day after her fight with Rook, Honey went home and had lots of mopey tears. Seeing his daughter upset, Honey’s Father decided to take her to the Store and buy some candy to soothe her down. But at the Store she noticed a shopper scooping a handful of blueberries and singing softly to it. This was quite strange and she looked different to the other townsfolk as she was wearing a cloak and heavy boots in the middle of Summer. After the shopper had bought everything Honey followed the shopper home. Before she knew it, she was at the gates of the Enchanted castle. Honey gasped as this was not meant to happen. The witch’s castle was out of bounds and yet she had walked right through it like a mouse scuttling into a big cheesy trap. Honey glanced at the shelves and couldn’t believe what she saw. She had just seen Rook’s soul trapped in a bottle……
